Types of Examinations.
.
Dr. Allan Dean and Dr. Richard Hamilton perform a full range of Optometric services, including...
.
Yearly Exam- In a comprehensive yearly examination, all structures of the eye are examined for disease and/or damage (yearly examinations are crucial to discovering ocular diseases at early, treatable stages). In addition, the eyes are checked independently and in unison for refractive errors (this is the portion of the exam involving the familiar eye chart and a series of lens choices).  Comprehensive exams start at $80 and go up from there, depending on the diagnosis and medical decision making involved in each case.

IOffice Visit- An office visit is appropriate when a particular structure of the eye needs evaluated/treated (e.g., a scratched cornea, a foreign body in the eye, a stye on the eyelid, a follow-up to check the progress of a cataract, etc.).  Typical office visits range from $48 to $119.

Contact Lens Fitting- Contact lenses are medical devices and must be individually fit to decrease the risks associated with wearing them. Drs. Dean & Hamilton are experts in the science and art of fitting contacts for virtually every lifestyle and occupation, from the increasingly popular soft disposable lenses to the precise RGP bifocal contact systems.  Our doctors and technicians have the experience and equipment to fit you with the optimum contact lens. Fitting fees vary greatly depending on the type of lens you need. The fitting fees start at $75 for spherical disposable lenses and go up from there for other types. Patients desiring a contact lens fitting must have a recent eye exam(either at our office or at an office we can obtain records from).

Dry Eye Evaluation- Insufficient or defective tear films cause ocular irritation in the form of scratching, itchy, or burning of the eyes and/or lids (especially in high pollen areas such as Tallahassee). An qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the tear film requires an office visit, or can be performed in conjunction with a yearly eye examination.

Computer Vision Evaluation- Millions of Americans suffer from symptoms associated with prolonged computer use (stiff neck, sore or burning eyes, headache, intermittent blurry vision). A prescription can be determined specifically for computer use, which will alleviate these symptoms. Special no-line bifocals can also be prescribed, which will provide optimum visual comfort while using the computer. A complete yearly examination is often performed in conjunction with a Computer Vision Evaluation to rule out a medical cause of symptoms.

Our examination equipment is state-of-the-art, and includes computerized vision analyzers, digital slit-lamps (used to record the status of ocular conditions for future reference and/or referral for surgery), and an automated field analyzer (used to detect anomalies in peripheral-vision, which are often an early sign of glaucoma).
